Cargo Carriers: right behind Transport Month!
Cargo Carriers, the leading South African logistics solutions provider, is right behind and fully committed to Transport Month. “This year, the theme of Transport Month is ‘Together shaping the future of transport’. We applaud government’s aim to raise awareness of the important role of transport in the economy, and we are completely supportive of the need to provide safer, more affordable, accessible and reliable transport,” says Elmarie Ollewagen, business development and communications manager at Cargo Carriers.
Ollewagen notes that transport plays a critical role in the South African economy. “Accordingly, especially during Transport Month, it is good to see that government’s investments in the transport sector are aimed at stimulating development and creating jobs as part of the country’s Nine-Point Plan. These investments will ensure that we build an integrated public transport network across the country,” she notes.
Furthermore, she points out that government’s investments in rail, roads and public transport are changing the way people access their places of work, study and entertainment. “These investments will also help to grow our economy, and address the challenges of unemployment, poverty and inequality. This is an immense responsibility that also requires support from pioneering participants in the private sector – and not just during Transport Month,” says Ollewagen.
Notably, safety is again a major theme of this Transport Month. “Maintaining a robust safety, health, environment and quality management system will always be a major focus for Cargo Carriers, which handles and transports some of the world’s most hazardous materials for leading industrial companies,” she says.

The company currently has more than 3800 wheels on the road, delivering road transport logistics services to the chemicals, gas, steel, powders, mining, sugar and fuel industries. “This is complemented by the sophisticated supply-chain solutions Cargo Carriers also supplies to reputable South African footwear manufacturers,” notes Ollewagen.
She adds that the company is constantly looking at solutions that will provide its customers with a competitive edge. “Cargo Carriers continues to innovate to help its customers simplify increasingly complex supply chains. A case in point is the use of sophisticated information technology systems and solutions to control costs, maintain fleets, plan and optimise routes, in addition to managing fuel consumption.”
Ollewagen points out that its “customer-centric” focus is evidenced by the number of industry awards that have been bestowed upon Cargo Carriers over the years. “They include the Gold Logistics Achiever Award for supply chain innovation in the clothing industry, as well as Gold and Silver Logistics Achiever Award for Supply Chain Innovation and Optimisation.
“As one of southern Africa’s biggest and most financially stable transport logistics companies, Cargo Carriers is well positioned to continue helping move South Africa forward, and is ready for the economic upturn when it arrives.”
