Clean air technology from Outer Space
Launched in the African market by 3Sixty Biopharmaceuticals (3Sixty), Airocide units use cutting-edge NASA technology to combat a range of airborne pathogens. At the launch the results of a scientific study were announced, proving that Airocide units kill 99,94% of SARS-COV-2 within minutes!
Khandani Msibi, 3Sixty Group CEO, says that what gives Airocide the edge over its competitors is that its NASA technology eliminates particles of all sizes – even those too small for filters. There is growing evidence supporting airborne transmission as the dominant Covid-19 infection route. “We all need to look differently at how we can effectively prevent the spread of this virus,” he says. “With Airocide, we have an important preventive tool that has been missing until now.”
Walter Mbatha, CEO of 3Sixty, says that Airocide is listed by the FDA as a Class-II Medical Device, while in South Africa the units are listed as Class B medical devices. “When we make specific claims, like the effectiveness of Airocide against SARS-COV-2 and other pathogens, it’s because there is scientific evidence to prove this,” he notes. “This is why we’ve listed it with SAHPRA as a medical device; all of this speaks to the credibility and efficacy of the product.”
Mbatha recognises the economic impact Covid-19 has had on most sectors, explaining that Airocide creates cleaner, safe spaces for employees, bringing a degree of normality back to the workplace in the face of a predicted fourth wave. “We believe that these units will be a game-changer for businesses, schools, hospitals, and the hospitality industry,” he says.
Lebo Modiga, 3Sixty head of marketing, develops on this: “When weighing up short-term technological investment against long-term benefits and savings, it’s all about business continuity,” she explains. “Airocide provides a safe, productive working environment for employees to confidently return to the office, while employers no longer have to worry about periodic virus-related shutdowns.”
The units also have extremely low energy demands. “We’re entering the Green Economy,” Modiga points out. “If you look at systems currently used in buildings, they’re usually responsible for high-energy consumption, but our largest industrial unit only uses about 380W.”
3Sixty has held conversations with various specialists, and one silver lining to emerge from the pandemic cloud has been the elevation of conversations about air quality in general. “We still need education and awareness, though,” says Modiga, “to integrate these discussions into conversations about health and safety in the workplace, as well as general wellness … not just for Covid, but also looking to the future.”
