Four ISOs, one audit
Four ISOs, one audit
Grindrod Logistics (GLO), working with Maersk, has received four ISO certifications through an integrated audit approach.
The certifications indicate GLO’s compliance with the following international standards:
- ISO 22000 – Food Safety Management System
- ISO 9001 – Quality Management System
- ISO 14001 – Environmental Management System
- ISO 45001 – Occupational Health and Safety Management System
JC Auditors provided support to GLO during the certification process.
Industry context
Obtaining multiple ISO certifications simultaneously is relatively uncommon in the South African logistics sector. These certifications require organisations to demonstrate compliance with specific standards for risk management, operational procedures, and sustainability practices.
Implementation process
The certification project involved several phases, encompassing implementation across six sites in four provinces, the development of an integrated management system (IMS), and on-site auditing to verify compliance with international standards.
Team members Lungelo Masondo and Chantell Visser developed and implemented the IMS system, while Anil Lazarus conducted the compliance audits.
Audit approach
JC Auditors used an integrated audit approach that examined multiple certification requirements simultaneously. The methodology focused on risk assessment and mitigation; alignment with regulatory requirements; and sustainability practices.
Oliver Naidoo, managing director of JC Auditors, has commended GLO on its impressive achievement. “Attaining multiple ISO certifications in a single integrated audit is an extraordinary accomplishment. This success not only elevates Grindrod Logistics as a leader in the logistics industry but also demonstrates the power of structured, strategic management systems in enhancing operational efficiency, sustainability, and supply chain resilience,” he emphasises.
Future implications
These certifications establish documented standards for GLO’s operations across quality, safety, environmental, and food safety domains. The company will need to maintain these standards and undergo regular reassessment to retain certification status.
