Gloves for all occasions

Gloves for all occasions

There is a rising demand for gloves that offer multifunctional protection (such as cut resistance, touchscreen capability, lightweight design, and protection against electrostatic discharge) in the hand protection PPE market. We discover how SHOWA is addressing this.

“The rising emphasis on risk prevention by employers and increased awareness among end-users have played a crucial role in propelling the industrial hand protection market forward,” explains Amélie Nguyen, marketing communications and digital specialist at SHOWA – a fully integrated manufacturer of PPE used for hand protection. “This heightened attention to safety has driven the demand for multipurpose gloves that not only offer exceptional protection, but also ensure comfort, dexterity, and a suitable fit, significantly boosting the market for multifunction gloves.”

To address this, SHOWA has launched six gloves for enhanced multipurpose use that cater to the diverse needs of various working environments, while offering tailored solutions.

First up are the XC500 and XC800 models, which complete the S-TEX series. These ensure comprehensive coverage across all cut protection levels from A to F, and provide superb grip and tactility in dry conditions. “Both gloves boast high abrasion resistance (Level 4), offering excellent resistance to wear and tear,” Nguyen points out.

SHOWA has also expanded the DURACoil family with the launch of the DURACoil Alpha series, which includes the XC510, XC810, AC800, and AC200 models. Certified by OEKO-TEX standard 100, these gloves are free from harmful substances and adhere to ecological standards for products in direct contact with the skin.

The XC510 glove, with an 18-gauge shell made of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) yarn, renowned for its superb cut resistance, guarantees maximum flexibility while offering top-level protection against sharp objects (rated D/A4). It is the lightest in its category, weighing only 36g. Designed with a PU coating for exceptional comfort and a close fit, it offers strong protection in a slim design. “The result is much greater flexibility and dexterity without compromising the safety of our workers. This provides excellent grip and comfort for long-term use of the gloves and handling small parts,” Nguyen elaborates.

The XC810 has similar cut resistance to the XC510 but is also silicone-free, which prevents metal or other surface contamination. The glove offers flexibility and touchscreen compatibility in diverse settings.

The AC800 and AC200 gloves represent SHOWA’s ultimate cut-resistant solution. Designed specifically for use in highly flammable or explosive environments (ATEX), the silicone-free AC800 and AC200 are anti-static, complying with the EN16350 standard, and like the XC810 offer touchscreen compatibility, preventing fingerprints on various surfaces.

“With their microfibre construction and lightweight design, the AC800 and AC200 offer unmatched flexibility and grip. Notably, the AC200 gloves are lighter and thinner than any others in their category, weighing just 33g. This ensures superior flexibility and dexterity without compromising worker safety,” Nguyen says.

“Overall, both PPE hand protection providers and their clients face the dual challenges of advancing product innovation and sustainability within a fluctuating economic and regulatory landscape. Achieving a balance among these factors is crucial for adapting to dynamic market demands and ensuring the safety and satisfaction of end users.”
